Chapter Eight

Lawrence made Julie pick up more takeout. There was no way he was missing out on this temporary asset. Very few of the local restaurants would sell to the Coven. That was changing. Slowly. It might take years before the diner would let him set foot in there. He was going to make Julie bring him their famous apple cobbler one day.

When they got to the Community Center, Ivy and her men were already setting up. This meant that Ivy was running around like a chicken with her head cut off, and the twins were standing in the back, eyeing the door. They nodded to Lawrence and Julie when they came in, but didn't move from their spots.

Lawrence cleared his throat, trying to get Ivy's attention.

"Yes, yes," she chanted, with her back turned to him, "you're here. I don't know why you think you deserve a medal every time you show up to a class you teach."

Lawrence tried ignoring the twins' shit-eating grins. He was going to steal some of those bottles that Stella had made earlier and throw them at the twins.

Lawrence suddenly felt nervous. He did not know why. It felt like a big thing to introduce Julie to Ivy.

"Ivy Stevens, this is Julie Pierce. She is nothing like her kin," he said as an introduction.

Ivy whirled around. She gasped when she saw Julie. Her pale cheeks stained hot pink. Her eyes went wide. She looked mortified.

"I'm so sorry. I'm usually not that rude. My name is Ivy," she said in a single breath. She jogged around the classroom furniture with her hand held out.

The friendly effect was ruined when her foot caught the edge of a desk, and she tripped. It was a small one. She caught herself.

Ezekiel made a pained noise in his throat while his brother whispered, "Fuck." Ivy was a klutz. One of her mates would have a heart attack eventually.

Julie didn't laugh or let it phase her. She stepped forward and shook Ivy's hand. "It's nice to meet you officially. I took the class with you the first time you taught." She gestured to a seat near the back in the center of the room. "I sat away from the edges, so I didn't accidentally trip your mates."

Ivy's face lit up with understanding. She shot the twins a dirty look before turning to Lawrence. "We had a trial run of the curriculum before you joined. There were no magical demonstrations in that version. It was an eight-hour boot camp class. We found out that no wolf can sit for that long. Ezra and Ezekiel were tearing up the carpet with their pacing."

"There's a curriculum? I thought you were making this up on the spot." He joked.

Ivy cast him a disapproving look, clearly unamused by his joke. She turned back to Julie. "I heard about what happened at the apartments. You were so brave."

Julie shuffled uncomfortably. "I did what anyone else would do."

"That's not true," Ivy argued. "Not many people would stay at the Coven house to guard Lawrence.
