“What happened to your lip?” Monday asked Kenyatta as he walked through the bedroom door, hating that she felt relieved to see him. She noticed that his clothes were disheveled, but she no longer had the energy to stress about where he’d been.

“I ran into the door,” he said, looking at the way her hair swept against her collarbones.

Taken aback, she wanted to ask him if the door had beaten his ass, but quickly changed her mind. As she stared at him, his jaw twitched. She swallowed and said, “And how did you do that?”

“I was out thinking and not paying attention when I was walking.” He sat on the edge of the bed, the faint scent of Poison perfume lingering on him. Monday diverted her eyes from his face. She couldn’t take any more of his lies. She didn’t want to argue, and she didn’t want to feel stupid that she was lying here on the bed accepting this.

Kenyatta cupped her chin and turned her back toward him. “Monday, baby, I’m just so fucked up about what’s going on between us. I need you, baby. You don’t understand.”

Monday still refused to look in his eyes. “Kenyatta…please.”

Kenyatta paid Monday no attention as he began to massage her toffee thighs, the soft palms of his hands melting her resistance. He turned her over and she looked at him. Monday hated that looking at him always turned her on, but this time she fought like hell against the feeling that his kissing her inner thigh was giving her. And instead she remembered her conversation with Collyn.

Kenyatta looked at Monday and he could see the brush of coldness on her face. “So what, you don’t want me to touch you?”

“No,” she spoke quietly, holding her voice steady, “I don’t.” She clicked off the lamp on the nightstand and the room suddenly went dark.
