CHAPTER 24

(The following morning)

Kalisha woke up to the smell of breakfast. For a moment she thought she was back in her childhood bedroom. She threw her legs over the side and stood to her feet. Throwing her hands over her head, she reached high stretched her spine. Clad in her tube socks, she walked across the bedroom floor and pulled the door open. The kitchen was in an uproar.

“Good morning sleepy head,” Trish said to Kalisha as she smiled. “You have things over there in that chair.” Kalisha walked over to a chair and picked up the bag.

“What’s this?” Kalisha asked as she opened the bag to examine it.

“Just some jeans, a fresh pair of underwear, a t-shirt and some pads, nothing special,” Trish replied.

Kalisha went to say “thank you,” when Gucci Red sauntered in the kitchen.

“Good morning,” Gucci Red said.

“Good morning,” Kalisha smiled. “Y’all sho’ are in a good mood this morning.”

Trish shrugged her shoulders and flipped the pancakes that were on the skillet.

Gucci Red turned to Kalisha. “Today is the day that we figure everything out. I’ll be glad when this shit is done and over with.”

‘I would be, too. I’m tired of looking at these bitches, and I know they are tired of looking at me!’ Kalisha thought to herself. She turned to go check on Cartier when Moet bounced in the kitchen.

“If you’re looking for Cartier, he’s in the shower where you need to be.” Kalisha frowned up her face getting ready to speak. “Before you say anything,” Moet stopped her, “Go brush your teeth and wash yo’ ass. You smell like the outside dumpster, and that shit is not cute.” Kalisha was embarrassed and they all could tell.

“Y’all leave that damn girl alone,” Trish said. “You can use the bathroom in my room. It’s at the top of the stairs, the second door on the right.” Kalisha nodded her head, and she went to go take care of her hygiene.

After taking a shower, she did feel better. Kalisha tied her soiled clothes up in a plastic bag which she intended to throw away. The jeans they bought for her were too big, but a beggar couldn’t be choosy. Kalisha was indeed thankful. She bounced down the stairs and through the hall. The smell of the bacon was calling her name. She threw her things in the trash can, grabbed a seat and sat down.

“So, what’s on the agenda for today?” Kalisha asked.

Gucci Red looked at her and said, “We wait.”

“Cartier’s friends should be arriving this afternoon and by this evening, we should know what we need to do,” Moet finished.

Kalisha picked up a piece of bacon and popped it into her mouth. “Where’s Cartier?” she asked looking around.

“Calm down shorty, he’s still in the bathroom. He should be out shortly,” Gucci Red answered.

Kalisha jumped to her feet. “He’s been in there for an awful long time, and no one bothered to check on him?”

Gucci Red fanned Kalisha off as Moet stuffed a piece of bacon in her mouth.
