8.3 Radiology

CT especially in 3D or midsagittal reconstruction (Fig. 8.1) and lateral cervical spine radiography (Fig. 8.2) can show increased both basion – dens interval (BDI) as well as basion – axial interval (BAI); the cut-off value is considered 12 mm for both parameters [2, 12, 13]. The Powers ratio is greater than 1.0 [23]. Associated injuries to the C0-C2 complex can also be appreciated this way and are rather common in AOD patients [2, 14]. Cranial CT may reveal evidence of intracranial traumatic injuries.
