Fabian: Thank you for this morning

Me: Why are you thanking me? It was me that got off.

Fabian: Because I’m not worth you. Anything you give me is a gift.

Me: Fabian, don’t. Just don’t.

Fabian: Don’t what? Tell you I will lose my shit if you leave me?

I smiled, then almost screamed, knowing I had just allowed Joseph to have his way yet again.

Me: I’m a nobody

Fabian: You’re everything, Mo. Everything to me. Don’t give up.

Me: I’m not worth it. It’s you that deserves better.

Once I texted that, my cell rang. It was him. Just like being on “automatic” as they say about us in this life, I immediately fell to his spell, eager to please him. One minute it was about Joseph. The next Fabian. I was a mess, truly a mess. No way was he even supposed to want me. He made it so easy to let him back in and now I had to let him go.

“Whatever he said, fuck him,” he told me, full of rage.

“Wh—what did you say?”

“Mo, don’t fucking play. I know him. He’s fucking playing with you. I’m doing everything I can to get things perfect for us. You were fine this morning, now what the fuck is going on?”

“I uh, I don’t know. I just think that maybe we are making a mistake,” I said, hoping he would really go off on me, so I could break up with him. Maybe push him so far away, he wouldn’t be a threat to anyone. Not even Joseph.

“Pack your bags. And when I get there, no is not a fucking option, Mo. I mean that shit. I don’t care what you tell him.”

“You mean just leave? Leave Joan? Leave Dice?”

“Just leave Mo, for once. Just leave for me. I don’t care if it’s for a day or two, just don’t do this. Don’t shut me out,” he begged, making me feel full of shame. I began to panic, sweat peppering my skin. My thoughts were racing.

The narrative of defeat ran through my head over and over. I was constantly sabotaging myself, already talking myself out of the future because of my past and current situation. I was royally fucked and the one person that could save me, didn’t know the monster I had become.

Edwin had shut done, only communicating with Dice. And Fabian? Well, if he knew just how disloyal I was, there was no help. I would be cut off for good and left to be what?

Exactly what Joseph had plotted and decided I would be—his bitch.

“Fine, I’ll do it,” I told him against my best judgment. “But only for a night.”

“One, ten. The shit don’t matter. Just be ready when I fall through there. And Mo?” he said as I took deep breaths trying to calm down, my heart pounding erratically.

“Yes, Fabian?”

“You’re worth it. I waited my entire life for you. Even before we met, my heart was reserved for you, Mo. Don’t stay there in your head. Listen to your heart. Listen to me.
