I think the signs are good. Chawla from Head Office called today and his tone was quite deferential. He may have heard some rumours. Mr. Jagtiani told me there would be a formal announcement next week.

All evening, I resisted the urge to tell Vinita. She has a lot on her mind right now, with all the intricacies of planning Sunny’s party. I’ve decided it can wait another day or two. A move to Bombay will be tough on her—she’s got her entire friends circle and support system here. On the other hand, she will definitely rejoice in the increased status and social position that my new role will bring. I’m not worried about the kids—they will adjust soon enough.

I’m planning to finish work early tomorrow and return by 6 PM latest, so that I can see Sunny cut his cake. Children observe and remember these things.
