CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Davie threw some water over Pooh’s face, as she lie on the dirty motel floor, because she’d fainted for the second time that day. Every time she realized that she lost Cordon, and Miranda she would work herself up to a frenzy.

When Pooh regained consciousness, she spit some of the water out of her mouth and sat up straight on the floor. “What’s going on?”

“You keep passing out,” Davie said rubbing her forehead. “You gotta calm down though. You not gonna find them kids like this.” He helped her to the bed. “We gonna find them though. I promise.”

“But how, Davie?” she looked up at him for answers. “You been telling me this for the past day and we still haven’t found them yet.”

“Maybe we should call the cops,” Davie said never thinking he’d hear the day he’d say those words.

“No! Because then they’ll blame me,” Pooh responded breathing heavily. “Do you understand what can happen to me, if Kimi and Flex know I lost them?” she asked, with wide eyes. “Flex is going to kill me! And Kimi might hold the gun for him.”

Davie sat next to her. “Let’s think hard,” he said rubbing her leg. “Where do you think they could possibly go?”

“They could go anywhere,” She said, shaking her head at his dumb ass question. “I don’t know. That’s why I’m asking you.”

“Okay, when they left, where did they say they were going?”

“To the soda machine,” she pointed at the door. “In the hallway outside of the room.”

“Okay, how come we didn’t check there already?” he asked seriously looking into her eyes.

“You playing right?” she inquired with lowered eyebrows.

“No, we should always look in the last place they went. So if they went to the soda machines, they could possibly still be there.”

“Davie, we past the soda machines on the way to the room. There is nowhere for them to hide by the machine.”

“Well I’m checking again.”

Pooh watched as Davie inspected the soda machine. He looked to the left of it and then the right. He even got on his hands and knees and looked under it. When his brain engine really started to roar, he opened the soda slot and looked inside of there. With everything he’d done, Miranda and Cordon still were not found.

“Well,” she asked sarcastically, “are they inside the machine or what? Maybe they miraculously turn themselves into a Coke or Sprite.”

“You talking a lot of shit,” he said standing up straight brushing his hands together. “You might not like my methods, but at least I’m trying to find the kids. All you want to do is pass out and cry.”

Davie was right. People cracked on him all the time. They said he was stupid. They said he was a boat head. They even said he couldn’t find his own eyes if he was looking at them in the mirror. But what people failed to say about him was that he had heart, and that it belonged to Pooh.

Pooh loved him just as strong.
