I woke with a start. Voices were still echoing in my mind. That conversation and what had happened replaying in my mind in a way that worried me.

And that was before I realized where I was and who else was there. Then I really thought I was losing it. I blinked around my room and then at Hudson next to me.

Huh?

I looked at my hand as I sat up and counted my fingers. I’d read that you had extra fingers in a dream. I wasn’t sure if that was real, but everything seemed clear and not foggy like a dream.

“Not morning yet,” he grumbled as he reached for me.

I flinched and smacked his hand away, scooting back.

He inhaled sharply, letting me know he was awake now. His eyes opened and his vibrant blue eyes locked with mine. They turned deep purple, so he was turned on or about to shift.

I figured it was the first when we were in bed. I pulled away more when I realized that, feeling… I wasn’t sure. A lot of things.

He watched what I did and pushed up. “You’re awake.”

“I think so,” I mumbled, rubbing my head. “I can’t think this is real.”

“Why not? Are you okay?” He sat up the rest of the way and reached for me. He frowned when I flinched away and moved back. “Shorty?”

“You’re here? In my room?” I rolled out of bed and saw light peeking through the curtains. “Overnight? No that…” I glanced around and got scared when something big was missing.

Darby.

“Hey, you’re okay,” he whispered as he got out of bed too. “You just passed out from not eating.”

“And stress.” I glanced down and saw I was in a nightgown. “Why am I home?”

“Tams, are you okay?” he worried.

“None of this is making sense,” I might have said more, but the door opened and Darby walked in carrying an overloaded tray. Relief swarmed me. “This is real?”

His eyes flashed shock. “Yes, this is real, agra. Did you have echoes?”

I opened my mouth but then closed it. “I don’t know. Nothing seems to fit and I feel off.”

“Look in the mirror,” he said gently. “You can’t see yourself clearly in a dream. I looked it up.”

Perfect. I raced into the bathroom and found I was crystal clear to my own eyes. I even had the earrings in that I’d been wearing for the party. I sighed in relief and went back out to the room. “Thank you.”

“Why are you so confused and upset?” Hudson asked as he came closer. He reached for me again but I backed away, his nostrils flaring at the gesture. “What is going on?”

“Chill out,” Darby said coldly as he sat down the tray. “Security here is better than at the villa. Lageos wanted you here under his wards after you passed out.”

“There we go,” I sighed, scrubbing my hand over my head. “We were going to go there. Hudson’s here after not talking to me all semester, in our room, and you were gone.
