I didn’t know how I was able to walk when I woke up the next morning. The only break Ezra took was to answer the door about an hour after we got back from the very passionate display down in the club.

When I’d started the game, I never expected him to injure someone just for looking at me, but I’d goaded him until the very end and was rewarded with the hottest night of my life.

Ezra cooked me breakfast then went down to the club to retrieve my purse from the locker system at the entrance. Not having any of my things for the last day and a half hadn’t been difficult. When he gave my phone back, I had several texts, voicemail messages, and way too many emails. The friends I’d come to The Deacon with only got worried last night when they hadn’t heard from me in twenty-four hours.

Jennifer(TEXT): Okay, Pru. You’ve either been kidnapped or are having a marathon fuckfest, but either way, you need to call me back.

Most of my notifications were from Daddy. I opened up the latest voicemail and put it on speaker: “Hey, honey bear, it’s Daddy. I haven’t heard from you in a few days, and I know you aren’t happy with the amenities at the new apartment, but I’m sure I can get you out of the lease if you’re really upset. I’m going to Dallas on Wednesday, but I’ll transfer your allowance before I go. Call me back. Love you.”

The next message started before I could stop it, and my mother’s abrasive vibrato echoed around the bathroom: “Prudence. It’s Mom. I’m up in Napa for the week with James. Have you heard from your father? Of course you have. You’re probably off somewhere with him and Julie. Well, I hope you and your new gal pal are spending all his money somewhere. The gold-digging floozy better do it now before he dumps her for the next bimbo in a short skirt. Did you know I saw your father flirting with your Uncle Blake’s secretary just last week? Anyway, a story for another time. I’ll call you when I get home from Napa. Kisses.”

If I rolled my eyes any harder, they’d fall out of my head. Instead of calling either of my parents, I called Jennifer, and she answered on the first ring.

“Oh my God, Pru, where have you been!” she shrieked. “I’ve been worried sick!”

“You’re not going to believe this,” I whispered. “I went home with Ezra St. Croix.”

“Shut. Up.”

“I’m in his bathroom right now.”

“Oh my fucking God. Tell me everything.” She sounded breathless.

“I can’t right now but I’ll tell you one thing. The rumors are true. He is incredible in bed and his cock is pierced. No man will ever live up to this weekend.” I swooned, and my stomach knotted at the idea that this time with Ezra was only a fling.
