Return to activity: The time when the individual receives their permanent or definitive prosthesis including lifelong management, recreation, and return to work (i.e., also known as the postprosthetic phase).

Shrinker: A sock-like garment usually made up of elastic or rubber-reinforced cotton and used for volume control and edema. Shrinkers come in a variety of sizes to create the proper compression.

Socket: The component of the prosthesis that supports and contains the residual limb.

Suspension: The mechanism that links the prosthesis to the residual limb.
