Serena was more adept than others at utilising the portals.

She understood how they worked, and she also knew exactly how to trace someone who’d used them before her.

She didn’t generally make anyone aware of this since she had no desire to become another a tracker for the lords. She enjoyed her freedom as a normal member of society who had done what was required of them.

Seven years she’d given them. That wasn’t a long period in the life of her race, but it was a time in which she’d unexpectedly grown to love her human companion, and her daughter.

She’d asked to accompany Filippo on his quest for vengeance, but had been refused. The laws existed for a reason. There had been too many wars in the past amongst the different tribes and denizens of their realms. The rules must be obeyed.

She would be no oath breaker.

In this case though, she was simply following her own intuition, rather than her human family. The character she tracked left queer signatures behind owing to his unusual way of using the gates.

To her, it felt almost like they welcomed him, treated him as an owner, but that wasn’t possible, was it?

She drew in a deep breath as the icy shiver left her, her skin rippling with a strange blue glow. Stepping away from the monolith she reached out with all her senses and could sense it. He was here. She’d found the right world.

They may refuse to let her travel with the humans, but she could at least assist by tracking down this hunter and offering her services to save the child. Filippo would hunt the killers to their slow and painful deaths, she knew him that well.
