8. Exclamatives (FGU section 11.4 and 11.5.7)

Sentences can be made into exclamations by putting comme or que in front of them: Comme (or Que) Karim a changé!

Noun phrases can be made into exclamations by putting an agreeing form of quel in front of them and moving them to the beginning of the sentence: Quels progrès ils ont faits!

‘What a lot of X!’ is Que de X!

‘Let them do X!’ is Qu’ils fassent X (with the verb in the subjunctive).

Translate the following into French.

How lazy they are!

How well you sleep when you are in the country!

What a lot of problems we have before us (use affronter des problèmes)!

With what energy she undertakes everything she does!

Let him wait in my office.

Someone order me a taxi.

What fine weather we have had this year.
