Chapter Four

“This is terrible.” Maria sank beside Mateo on the floor. “First the baile and now this!”

“Everything okay?” Jeremy asked. He walked up behind them.

The two cousins glanced at each other. Neither had the courage to tell him.

“Oh.” Jeremy looked at all their items poured out on the floor. “I’m guessing you lost your scripts.”

The cousins nodded. It was even worse hearing it out loud.

“Don’t worry. We all have hard days in theater,” Jeremy said. “One time before a show, I spilled orange soda all over my new tap shoes. We weren’t supposed to have soda backstage, but I sneaked it in. In the next dance, my shoes were supposed to sound like click-click-click. But instead, they went kwich-kwich-kwich.”

The cousins gasped.

“Were you fired from the show?” Mateo asked.
