There are increasing numbers of publications on photoredox-based radical reactions. Shown in Scheme 3.16 is an example in the synthesis of fused-pyran derivatives 41 [20]. Acyl radicals, generated from acyl chloride under the phodoredox condition using IrIII(ppy)3, added to 1,7-enynes to form 42 and then cyclized to the triple bond to give 43. Single electron oxidation followed by cyclization afforded 44 and led to final products 41 after deprotonation.
