Inter-ethnic violent conflict is a common phenomenon in the region, generated by a variety of factors best viewed as feeding each other. These include land use change, climate variability and climate change, and resource competition, as well as cattle rustling, proliferation of small arms, moran (warrior) culture and political incitement among other things (Mkutu, 2002, 2007; Schilling et al., 2012; Opiyo et al., 2012; Njiru, 2012; Daher et al., 2018). The impact of land use change, of climate variability and climate change, and of the discovery of new water and energy resources will be discussed in the following sub-sections within the context of the effective governance of the WEF nexus.
