The night had been a dazzling whirlwind, unexpected and exciting, and Zienna had lost herself completely in the experience. But come the morning, merely a few hours after Wendell kissed her on the forehead and told her he had to leave, Zienna awoke in a state of disbelief.

She’d slept with Wendell. She’d let him back into her bed. And she could hardly believe it had actually happened.

Worse, she felt great. Her body still tingled in the most wonderful ways. Wendell had given her exactly the kind of sex she needed. The kind she had hoped for from Nicholas after last night’s successful launch.

Instead, Nicholas had snapped at her in a jealous rage, and Zienna had done the exact thing he had feared: had sex with his best friend.

She lay still, staring at the ceiling. Dawn had broken, and her bedroom was beginning to fill with light. It was a new day, and she had no clue what she was going to do.

She was both excited after her night of carnal pleasure, and disgusted with herself. Feelings on either end of the emotional spectrum.

People wanted simplicity. Right versus wrong. Good versus bad. Black or white. But life wasn’t simple. It was usually complicated with shades of gray. She understood that all too well now.

Zienna wasn’t a cheater. She wasn’t the kind of person who looked for attention from other men when she was in a relationship. Yet she had allowed herself to be driven by lust last night.

“Nicholas,” she said softly. How would she face Nicholas?

She was angry with him for treating her as though she had betrayed him, when she had in fact rejected Wendell’s advances. She could use the excuse she’d heard others produce in similar situations before: if he already thinks I’m cheating, then why shouldn’t I? It would be all too easy to blame her actions on Nicholas’s outburst, but that wouldn’t be the truth.

No, Zienna had to own what she’d done with Wendell. He had made it his mission to seduce her, but at the end of the day, she had allowed herself to be seduced.

Was it possible that Nicholas had known she wouldn’t be able to resist his friend? Was there something about how she’d looked at Wendell, even though she’d tried to reject him, that had made it obvious she would end up in bed with him again?

Zienna closed her eyes. Thought once more about the moment she’d seen Wendell through her peephole. The alarm and the tingle of excitement. Then she’d let him in and he’d made that comment about being tired of pretending. Now she couldn’t help wondering if he’d been talking about himself or the both of them.

Had the two of them started down this road toward sex the moment they’d laid eyes on each other again?

She knew what Alexis would say. Her friend would talk about how hard it was to forget a guy who could utterly thrill you in the bedroom. And Zienna couldn’t deny that truth. Her body was still feeling the pleasure of Wendell’s touch.
