Chapter Sixteen

IASON

The sight of Orion entering the Brewhaha Café in his stylish black suit, violet shirt, and lavender paisley tie was stunning. His bright smile when he spotted me brought sunshine to my soul. I’d give anything to kiss him hello, but the last thing I needed was the paparazzi descending on us while we were building the foundation of our relationship.

“Sorry I’m a little late.” His expression turned remorseful. “Mom surprised me by stopping by the museum. She says hi, by the way.”

“A worthy reason.” I gave him a reassuring smile. “I’ll always wait for you.”

His cheeks flushed with that blush I loved so much. “Thank you for that, and for wearing your glasses. They suit you.”

I adjusted them further up my nose. “I’m happy to oblige your nerd fantasy.”

He laughed hard. “You’re too kind.”

Our server approached the table, a tall man who had striking amber-colored eyes. He was handsome with an amiable smile, looking amazing in his jeans and white button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to expose his beautiful forearms.

Orion seemed excited by his appearance. “Welcome back, Wolfie!”

“Thanks. It’s good to see you as always, Rion. Hopefully, you didn’t miss me too much while I was gone.” Rather than being threatened by the man, I loved their easy camaraderie.

“I did, although Brinley took great care of me in your absence. How was your visit home with your mom?”

As Wolfie filled Orion in on his trip, I fell more in love with my boyfriend. It was clear he treated Wolfie as more than a regular server who didn’t matter. He cared enough to remember minor details, which spoke to how big his heart was.

“I’m so glad you had a wonderful time,” Orion said after Wolfie finished talking.

“Speaking of wonderful, we have your favorite three-cheese panini as today’s special.”

I loved Orion’s delighted reaction that he didn’t hide. “That’s great! I’ll have that.”

“I’ll have the same thing with tea.” I handed over my menu with a word of gratitude.

“Awesome.” The server accepted the menus and put them under his arm. “I’ll get those right out for you.”

“Thanks, Wolfie.”

The man flashed a charming smile. “I’m happy to help.”

After he left, Orion turned to me with bubbling excitement. “I promise you’ll love this panini. It’s probably my all-time favorite thing here, which is saying something since everything here is excellent.”

“I’ve certainly never had a bad meal here. I stop here whenever I’m in town.”

I loved how happy he was that I supported his favorite café. The joy he derived from such simple things made me treasure him even more. “The food is always delicious and everyone is super nice. You can’t ask for more than that.”

Wolfie brought our drinks over. I noticed he gave Orion a strawberry lemonade, although he hadn’t ordered one. It spoke to his status as a regular, which made me happy that he was supporting Early.

“How’s work?” I asked after he left again.

Orion’s expression grew sheepish as he nudged the ice around in his drink with his straw.
