To see Paxton swim was to watch a beloved dolphin in action at Sea World. One would think he’d been raised by a school of carp. Perhaps his mother was a mermaid and his father an avid seadog. The man moved so gracefully in the waves of the North Pacific Ocean; if he were blue, he’d be undetectable. They had dinner reservations at Alan Wang’s, but instead of going straight there after they’d made love and took a shower, Paxton decided to detour. Asking the limo driver to pull over, he stripped down to his boxers and dove in the ocean. She threatened to put this in the article, but he called her bluff and nothing could steer him from his course.

He promised it would only take a minute, but a minute turned into twenty. She stood on the shoreline, studying the man who was definitely in his element. Holding her shiny gold heels slung over her shoulder, she rolled her eyes at the display. Paxton was a complete showoff, and it took no time for a crowd to gather, taking note that the human fish before them was no ordinary man, but Paxton Starr, the great illusionist. After a few dirty looks for him to bring his ass on, the man dragged himself away from the waves, dripping wet with a big smile on his face, and let the awaiting crowd envelop him. Someone handed him a towel, which he promptly took and thanked them for before getting dressed, totally unconcerned about the soaked underwear under his dress slacks.

The mania soon began…

Hands shoved forward begging for autographs and people with their cellphones grabbing him close as if they were old friends, vying for selfies. Much to her surprise, after a few minutes of this pandemonium, Paxton worked himself out of the middle of the crowd and reached for her, taking her hand.

“Hey everybody, thanks for the love. Unfortunately, I gotta go… gotta dinner date with my baby.” She couldn’t help but smile. “I have a show in Hawaii later on in the year, so make sure you all come and check me out.” He turned his back on the mob of people and the couple marched through the sand towards the limo that awaited them.

“We love you, Paaaaxton!” someone called out.

“Love ya, too!” He looked over his shoulder and smiled, squeezing her hand as they journeyed on. Once they reached the limo, silence reigned. She watched as he meticulously cleaned his feet of sand with a wet wipe and paper towel, put his socks and shoes back on, then combed his hair with the help of a small mirror. After popping a stick of cinnamon gum in his mouth and noisily chewing, he plucked an issue of People magazine from a side pocket of the vehicle and began flipping through it.

“I guess I’ll be in somethin’ like this soon, huh? A gossip rag.”

“The Vegas Sun isn’t a gossip rag.” She swung her legs around and draped them over his lap.
