4.2 Efforts at Preliminary Siting of PV Power Plants
Solar grid-connected power generation avoids the use of expensive and difficult-to-maintain battery energy storage. Today, the focus is not only towards achieving the economies of scale in manufacturing and actual installations but also towards every possible aspect of laying down the PV utility scale power plant. One such key consideration is that of siting the power plant accurately and reliably. Besides observing the spot, the site should be mapped with the best available tools. Table 4.1 lists some site mapping tools available in the market today.
These software tools enable the use of raster (grid based) map data services. This is used mainly to visualize the following information:
