Physical Vision

Although clairvoyance is independent from physical vision, the majority of the exercises proposed will involve experimentation with open eyes and enough light for your physical vision to work.

In spite of the apparent incoherence, there are at least three reasons to use physical vision along with paravision. The first one is that, with eyes open, we have an objective reference of what we are seeing. This will make it easier to differentiate what is a physical image and what is not in a clairvoyance exercise. You will have a baseline from your physical perception and will be able to identify changes from that baseline.

Second, we have a conditioning that is part of our personal paradigm that tells us that we stop seeing if we close our eyes. This is a conditioning reinforced during all the time you have been alive in this life, and from all your previous lives, something fundamental in our biology: we need physical light to reach our retina to be able to see anything.

Although it is technically possible for clairvoyance to work when you have your eyes closed, it would be necessary to overcome this very strong clause from your personal paradigm. You would essentially have to ignore the suggestion of your biology in order to see with your paravision.

The third reason might be more pragmatic in the context of parapsychic development and helps to identify more clearly specific phenomena that you can experience in the various altered states of consciousness. It is a lot easier to eliminate images from the hypnagogic state if you have your eyes open, for example. It would be very hard for an adult in normal conditions to enter the hypnagogic state with his eyes open. With eyes closed, most would start seeing oneiric images from the hypnagogic states after about ten minutes of relaxation.

Therefore, a clairvoyance experiment done with closed eyes requires more experience, vocabulary, and sharper acuity when collecting and classifying perceptions. It would be harder to determine the source of the images you have seen, and ultimately to determine if your experience involved clairvoyance or not. With your eyes open, all this complexity goes away.

It is well known that the hypnagogic state itself can conduct the experimenter to several altered states of consciousness and various phenomena, including clairvoyance. The intention here is not to completely exclude the hypnagogic from your parapsychic development, but simply to put it aside temporarily in order to identify clairvoyance in a more isolated way, independently from oneiric forms of visual experience.

Naturally, having your eyes open brings its own obstacles, like the physical body movement and blinking. However, we can overcome those obstacles quickly through objective procedures.
