Chapter 15

Bryah

I was pissed at how Camilla and Sebastian invited that bitch Celina to dinner. Omar and I hadn’t spoken at all on the ride to my apartment. When we made it to my apartment complex, Omar, whipped into a parking spot. I jumped out of the car before he could put the gear in park. I stomped my way to my front door. Omar took his time getting out of the car. Once inside, I moved around the apartment, ignoring him.

“Look, before I get outta here, I just want to say that I had no idea about my people inviting Celina to dinner,” Omar said.

I collapsed on the sofa and ignored him. I was so humiliated that I was speechless.

“Oh, you don’t hear me talking to you?” Omar asked. He stood by the front door with his arms folded across his chest.

I got up from the sofa and attempted to walk towards the bathroom when Omar briskly walked towards me and lightly grabbed my elbow.

“Bryah, I know your ass hear me,” Omar said.

I turned around and glared at him.

“I’ve been dealing with your disrespectful ass parents since high school. I’m not going to your people’s house anymore,” I said raising my voice.

“That’s fine. You have every right to say that. I’m sorry,” Omar said. He pulled me into his chest and I wrapped my arms around his neck. I inhaled his scent and slowly felt myself calming down.

“I just don’t understand why they don’t like me,” I mumbled in his ear.

“I don’t know and I don’t care. Their opinion won’t change how I feel about you. Fuck Celina and their opinions,” Omar said.

His cell phone rung, so I dropped my arms from around his neck and took a step back. He dug into his pants and pulled out his cell phone. When I saw the irritation plastered on his face, I knew it had to be his mother. She was always interfering in his life. No surprise there.

“Yo,” he said. He’d put the call on speakerphone and I stood planted in place, eager to know what his mama was about to say.

“How dare you come and disrespect our home that way. Celina loves you, son, and you just stormed out of the house like that. I didn’t raise you to be rude. I’ve never been so mortified by your behavior in my life,” said his mother condescendingly.

Omar grimaced and said angrily, “Ma, I love Bryah. What’s disrespectful is y’all mistreating my girl and inviting an ex-girlfriend over that fucked me over.”

He was pacing the floor as I was still planted in the same spot. Watching him take up for me really did something to me. I was proud to see him finally stand up for me. He would say things here and there to his parents, but to see him getting loud and cursing, really showed me that he loved me and believed in our relationship.

“Omar,” said his mother shockingly. “How dare you curse at your mother! What is going on with you, son? I’ve never seen you like this.
