1 lb. sweet Italian pork sausage links
1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 29-oz. cans crushed tomatoes
1 c. red wine or beef broth
1 T. Italian seasoning
16-oz. pkg. ziti pasta, cooked
16-oz. pkg. shredded Cheddar cheese
Place sausages in a saucepan; cover with water. Boil for 15 to 20 minutes; drain and rinse under cold water. Cut into 1/2-inch slices; brown with ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until tender; drain. Add tomatoes and wine or broth; stir in seasoning. Heat until boiling; reduce heat and simmer until thickened. Remove from heat; pour 1/4 cup sauce into an ungreased roasting pan. Add half the pasta, half the remaining sauce and half the cheese; repeat layers. Bake, uncovered, at 325 degrees until bubbly, about 40 minutes.
