Walking and talking ended up meaning a short jaunt down the corridor to hole up at the empty end. With only Bryan’s room there, and him gone into town for a grocery and supply run for the hotel, we had relative quiet while CeCe made calls and Ezra worked on his edits to send out to the channel’s dedicated staff. Oscar let me spill the details in a growly rush before he laid his hands on either side of my face and pulled me in for a long, hard kiss. “Um, okay?” I muttered as he pulled away. “I’m not objecting but I didn’t expect that for a response.”

“You defended my honor against a pair of assholes,” he said simply. “That deserves a kiss.”

“I think I fucked things up for CeCe, though,” I sighed. “And probably us. The channel’s going to be pissed I screwed up a promo opportunity.”

“Then the channel can do a better job of vetting their fucking opportunities,” he growled. “Ugh. Sorry. Just still rattled after that fall earlier and…”

“And?” I asked. “What did you see, Oscar? You can tell me about it.”

“I can, can’t I?” he murmured, stepping in close again. His hands looped around the back of my neck, and he started to pull me closer.

Bang.

The door to Bryan’s room had slammed closed. The little plaque proclaiming it to be the Jessup-Bennington Room was still swinging on its nail.

“Wasn’t that closed a minute ago?”

He nodded.

“No one came up here.”

He nodded again.

“Oscar…”

“Later,” he whispered, stepping back. “We need to discuss this. Desperately. But not this second.”

As if on cue, Ezra came bounding out of my room, his laptop clutched to his chest and a frown on his face. “We need to do a few more pickups from the great room. The sound was shit and the channel’s team wants some more close up footage of the meters in action.”

Oscar sighed. “Let’s grab some food and give it a go, then. I want to check a few things before Bryan gets back.”
