I forget how dirty I am until I look at the other girls. It’s weird, cuz I feel clean here. The air is clean, and the snow is clean. I think that what we say to each other is clean too, even when the words are angry, because it’s mostly honest, and honest is clean. The way we live is clean too. Simple. There’s nothing here to get in the way of noticing yourself and how you act. If I don’t notice, one of the staff will notice for me.

“You seem upset, Hannah. What is your body doing? Would you like to check in with the group?”

I check in. I talk. I breathe deeply in and out and lean back against my frame pack, letting my body tell me that I am okay.
