CHAPTER FIFTEEN

ISLA

The day of the ball finally arrives.

The past few days with my guys have been weird. Sort of strained. I’m almost glad for the distraction of this event, whatever it is. I still haven’t been able to figure out the particulars, but I know I get to wear the gorgeous white gown Dushan designed for me. From what I can tell, it seems like the guys are just going to wear their military uniforms. Except, they’ve got extra medals and stuff attached to them today. So, is today like a wedding? Or an obligation? Just some way for them to show the kingdom that they chose me as a mate? That’s my best guess, but it’s still frustrating that I have to guess at all.

“Kotě?” Reule asks hesitantly.

I turn to face him from my spot on the counter. Caelan growls at Reule without looking up, and I roll my eyes as a smile tugs at my mouth. Ever since the guys showed me those drawings of Alistair, Rian, and Matthieu—and I admitted that Rian and Matthieu might be my mates—Caelan has barely let me out of his sight. He’s been primal and possessive, fucking me at least three times a day—rougher and more passionate than he’s ever been, and only sometimes allowing any of the other guys to join us.

I haven’t said anything or asked him to cut it out because I understand his insecurity. I mean, I’m totally making assumptions here, but I can only guess that he’s upset that I potentially have other mates back in New York who are looking for me. Who may or may not want to take me away from my chimeras. Plus, I’m a slut for jealous and possessive guys. It’s always been a weakness of mine, which is why I vowed to stay far away from getting romantically involved with supernatural creatures—and especially shifters—after my breakup with Bryson. Now that things have changed for me so drastically, and Caelan, Audun, Reule, and Maalik are mine forever, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a sucker for Caelan going all alpha-hole lately.

But while I find Caelan’s behavior endearing and stupidly hot, it’s obvious the other guys are pissed at him. Audun especially, which is funny to see. Audun is usually the sweetest and quietest of the four. They’ve been bickering like crazy, always when they think I’m asleep or not paying attention. Maalik and Reule have tried talking sternly to Caelan too, but nothing has changed his mind. I feel bad that they’re all upset and fighting about this, but all I can do is try to physically show Caelan how much I love him.

It doesn’t help that my anxiety has been through the roof the past few days too. My mind has been racing with possibilities of how and when I might see Alistair, Rian, and Matthieu again, and what might happen when they meet my chimera mates. All I could understand from the guys’ attempt at an explanation for having
