D. DESCRIPTIVE PASSAGES

Another form of memory exercise seen on past exams tests literal reading comprehension. You will be given an article that may pertain to an emergency situation or some technical or procedural issue.

This kind of test differs somewhat from other reading comprehension exams because in most cases you are not required to draw inferences. Rather, it involves literal comprehension (the memorization of facts as they appear in the article). Trivial items in the reading are just as important as main concepts. Try to create some sort of bizarre story as you read through the article. Associating your story with the items mentioned will help you remember the reading.

Regardless of the article’s content, you will be given only five minutes to read. When your time is up for studying the article, the test examiner will collect the readings and then direct you to answer related questions in your test booklet or supplement.
