Chapter 14

In Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, a group of Italian men were in a neighborhood bar gambling and playing dominoes. Freddie Fingers, Paulie, Raul, and Sammy, Tony’s lieutenant, sat in the Orange Bowl’s dimly light room drinking and having fun.

Tony was a made man and the boss of the Luchiano family. He was a tall, handsome, sharply dressed man. He was very soft spoken, but when he needed to be heard he had a way of sending messages that everyone heard loud and clear.

No bricks, no money, and no movement at all went on in Brooklyn unless Tony knew about it. He was grooming his son, Anthony Jr., to take over the family’s vending business and the various nightclubs that he owned throughout Brooklyn.

Raul, who was known as Agent Bridges by the feds, was on the payroll of the Luchiano family, along with a few cops and DEA agents as well.

“Freddie Fingers, hey, man, how’s it hanging?” asked a tall, skinny guy with a long nose.

“Paulie,” Freddie said, acknowledging him in return.

“Where’s Tony?”

“He’s not up my ass, how the fuck should I know?” Freddie growled.

“What the fuck’s tha matta with him?” Paulie whispered to Sammy.

“His balls have been in a bunch ever since his daughter started banging that mulignon,” Sammy answered.

“He’s being a fucking prick,” Paulie said.

“Ay, Tony,” the men said in unison as he entered the bar. He resembled Sonny from the movie A Bronx Tale. When he said jump, all you saw were the bottom of the mens’ soles. Not a word was uttered unless Tony gave the O.K.

“The phone shook in Ant’s hand as she dialed Bridges’ number a second time. She couldn’t go through with the call at first.

“Bridges,” he answered on the other line.

“Ah, Bridges…” Ant mumbled.

“Hello?” Bridges interrupted in a loud voice.

“Uh, yes, Bridges,” Ant said, gaining her nerves back.

“Yes, this is Bridges,” he said in an irritated tone.

“This is Ant. I would like to meet with you. It’s very important.”

“Oh, do you have some good shit for me?” Bridges asked.

“Uh, as a matta of fact, I do,” she answered. “Can we meet tomorrow night at Chelsea Pier?”

“Let me check my schedule,” he replied. “Yes, that’s fine,” he said after a moment. “I’ll see you then.”

OK, Ant thought, pressing the END button on her phone. All I have to do is be straight with this motherfucker and he should understand. With that thought, Ant laid on the leather couch as thoughts began penetrating her mind. I hope this nigga don’t flip, she thought as she drifted off to sleep.

The pier seemed like a ghost town when Ant got there. Dressed in a black hoodie, black jeans, and black Air Force Ones, Ant blended in with the night. She was just about to leave when a blue pickup truck pulled up to the pier. She noticed that the driver was Bridges, who motioned for her to get inside.

“What’s up?” Ant asked as she entered the cab of the truck.

“You tell me,” Bridges said as he lowered the volume of the radio to hear what Ant had to say.
