The fear of being deprived of your pleasure or crutch, the fear that you’ve got to go through a period of deprivation and frustration to get free and the fear that maybe you’ll never be completely free from the desire to gamble.

The fear of success comes from not understanding what success really looks like.

THE FLAW IN THE MACHINE

The thing that sets man above all other species is intelligence. In addition to the survival instincts that we share with other animals, we have the intellectual capacity to pass on information.

We can also pass on misinformation.

Much of this misinformation goes against our instincts. That’s why, despite sensing that gambling is harming us, we tell ourselves that it’s OK to carry on . The misinformation we have been brainwashed with is compelling and we trust it over our instincts.

This is the flaw in the human machine.
