Chapter Twelve

Family Day Intrusion

In the morning, Kim woke in a good mood. “Good morning, baby.”

“Good morning.”

“How are you feeling?”

“Better.”

“Good because it’s family day and we’re going to have a good day, with family only. Come on, babe. Let’s get up!” Excited, she pulled me out of bed.

“Kim, stop! I just want to lay here for a moment.”

“No, come on. Get up. This is going to be a beautiful day, babe. Look, you just met this woman and she decided she wants to take your family away from you and you just let her change your whole attitude about how to live your life. That’s just crazy. I’m not going anywhere, so let’s go back to the way things used to be. We have two beautiful kids and one beautiful goddaughter. Let’s show them how to be a happy family, okay?”

Yeah, that bitch isn’t coming in here and ruining my life. I thought

We heard Angel knocking at our bedroom door. “Mom!”

“Come in, babe.” Angel opened the door. “Mom, you really need to change Chase. It stinks in his room.”

“Okay, I’m coming. Is your sister up yet?” Right then, Carrie walked up next to Angel, and took her hand.

“Godmommy, I’m hungry.”

“I was going to make breakfast, but I’m not strong enough to get up. I know if I get two kisses, I bet I could get up and make whatever you both want.” Both girls ran over to Kim who was sitting on the bed and kissed her. They laughed when Kim jumped up. “Okay, I’m coming to make you guys some breakfast.”

“Babe, I’ll change Chase while you start breakfast.”

“Okay. What do we want for breakfast, girls?”

Angel said, “Pancakes.”

Of course, Carrie wanted whatever Angel wanted. So, she said, “Yes, pancakes.” I could hear them laughing as they went down the stairs.

When I walked into Chase’s room, I could smell that Angel wasn’t kidding when she said Chase needed changing. It smelled so bad in there I needed to open the windows. He was getting too old for this. We had been trying to potty train him, but he wouldn’t stay on the potty. He waited until we weren’t looking, got off the potty, and walked around with his pullups around his ankles. He wouldn’t even bother to pull it up.

“Hey, little man. You’re stinky.” He laughed. I couldn’t help but kiss his cute little face. I changed his diaper and carried him out of his stinky room, but not before spraying air freshener. When I got downstairs with him, I saw that Kim had the girls helping her with breakfast.

“Bring me my son so I can kiss him.” As soon as I got to her, Kim grabbed him. “Good morning! How's my son this morning?” She spoke to him in baby talk, which made him laugh. “Mommy’s baby needs to start going to the potty.”

A few minutes later, Vanessa and Michelle showed up. Vanessa took Chase from Kim. “How’s my godson this morning?”

All he said to her was, “Ball!”

Vanessa asked, “Where is his ball?”

“Upstairs, but I don’t want him to have it yet.
