Lisa was wrong because Jade and Bryan hadn’t had sex yet.

“No that bitch didn’t.” Jade said to herself scratching the back of her head. She rolled her eyes and walked out of the door making a mental note to talk to her brother about it some other time.

“Imma have ta snatch that bitch.” Jade said to Bryan. They were in the car on the way to a concert. Bryan let Jade drive that night and she was pushing his whip like it was hers. Bryan liked the way Jade looked driving his Range. She looked so regal.

Bryan chuckled. “Calm down ma.”

“Nah she really doesn’t know, she fuckin wit tha wrong one.” Jade said eyebrows frowned.

“Every time she around me she got something to say, it’s like she jealous or something.”

“Um hum.” Bryan said.

“I might just have ta go back home to Jersey cause I can’t keep dealin wit that bitch.”

Jade said anger all over her face.

Bryan looked over at Jade from the passenger seat and said. “Naw mama don’t talk like that, you ain’t going nowhere trust me.” He rubbed her face making her smile. She parked the truck and they went into the concert.

That was a year and a half ago. The first night they made love. Three months before she had to “Beat that bitch’s ass for talkin shit.” In Jade’s words.

Jade and Lisa exchanged fists while Jade’s brother desperately tried to break them up. Jade gave her the beat down she deserved, then, packed her stuff and checked into a hotel. A week later Bryan gave her a key to the condo.

“I told you I got you ma.” Bryan said smiling with the key dangling off his finger. He was watching Jade walk through the empty space in admiration.

Jade, overwhelmed with joy made love to him in the middle of the floor in the empty condo. That was two months before Jade found out she was pregnant. Only to have Bryan make her have an abortion. Bryan claiming it wasn’t time.

“It’s just not the time yet ma, I got the twins.” Bryan said while Jade held back tears. She was devastated but had the abortion to please Bryan.

Bryan had given Jade a life away from home. She didn’t have to work. She didn’t have to worry about anything because he always made sure she was taken care of. Bryan was all Jade had in the city away from her home.

She didn’t talk to her brother as much after the altercation she had with his girlfriend. She made one friend; a girl who lived in the same building. She was the only person Jade talked to

outside of Bryan. Bryan was her world.

Now, Jade was in the bathroom at four o’clock in the morning trying to answer the questions brewing inside of her mind. She was determined to find out what she wanted to know.
