Zach

Zach was sitting at his desk, listening to one of his clients ramble on about something. Zach wasn’t really paying attention. The client wasn’t talking about anything important, and it was his money he was spending, so Zach figured that he could ramble all he wanted to.

His mind was occupied with Hannah and Maggie.

Hannah said that she loved him. To be honest, he had already figured that out.

She said that she knew that he didn’t love her. He hadn’t corrected her, because he had no idea how he felt. He thought that he loved her. He was pretty sure that he loved her, but he needed more time. This was all a bit sudden for him.

Maggie, on the other hand, was a completely different story. He had loved that little monkey as soon as he met her. He figured it was because she reminded him a lot of himself when he was a kid.

Finally, he couldn’t take any more of his client’s rambling.

“Mr. Kincaid, I’m sorry to stop you, but I have another appointment coming in. I’m sure that Missy will be glad to make you another appointment,” Zach said.

“Sure, no worries. I know you are handling everything terrifically for me,” he said.

“That I am. It’s what you pay me for,” Zach said.

He stood up and shook Mr. Kincaid’s hand, and showed him to the door. He was just about to head to the lounge for a much-needed soda when his computer blinged, telling him that he had an email.

It was from Burt Reid. The only thing attached was a video, which showed all three of his children as they shifted from human to their bear forms.

Two seconds later, another email came in from Burt. “A million in my bank account or this gets released.”

His first thought was that he was going to kill Burt. His second thought was that he was going to wring Hannah’s neck. In the video, she was standing on the porch watching the kids and was starting toward the fence, but she obviously hadn’t looked around the outside of the fence before the kids shifted.

He immediately called his security team.

When they rushed in, he showed them the video and the threat.

“No worries, boss. We’ll handle him,” Grant said.

Zach was furious. He knew Hannah was very vigilant and watched over his kids as much as she watched over her own. He knew that Burt was sneaky.

However unreasonable it might be, he still put the blame squarely on her shoulders.

He fumed all afternoon, clenching and unclenching his fists. He hated feeling helpless, but there wasn’t much he could do about this situation. That was why he hired Grant and Grant’s team.

About five, Grant came in and had Zach turn on his television. The news was on, and Burt’s face was plastered all over it.

“We have discovered that one of our local journalists has been faking his news stories for years. Due to hard work and a great investigative team, we have acquired files from Burt Reid’s computer
