The Great Trap

There is a great trap that Satan likes to set up in every marriage, and it depends on your reaction as to whether you will get trapped or not. It is not only for the male but also for the female. If Satan can’t catch one of you, he will try for the other one. He figures one of you is weak and will take the candy offered you; you both can’t be strong.

The only way to be strong is start out with the Lord God Almighty as part of your life—a very big part. Sometimes, it is only one of you that has the faith in God, but God sanctifies both of you because you are now one. But still, you have your own will, and he will let you make the choice. I am warning you this does happen. It will at some time in your life and will be a struggle for you. It happened to us!

First, I need to say my husband was a helper to people in trouble and never saw the traps laid for him. When he got the idea that something had gone too far and he needed to straighten the person out, he would come home and get me and our child—Carrie at the time—and take us back to the restaurant to straighten the girl out. To show he was happily married and had only tried to help her that was all.

This one girl gave him a ring to put on his key chain, so I wouldn’t see it. He told her no but she insisted. He told her he was happily married. But she wouldn’t take no for an answer. So home he came and told me the story. I got dressed and got Carrie up in her pj’s. And back to Flint we went. Dick had given me the ring, and I had it on my finger. It was and expensive ring, and I knew she would want it back. She waited on our table (I sort of felt sorry for her). I laid my hand on the table. And when I saw her look at it, I commented that Dick had just given me the ring tonight. Boy, was I surprised. She looked like she was going to cry.

She got Dick aside and asked for the ring back. He told her he didn’t want it in the first place, so he gave it to me. Now, she would have to ask me for it. When she came back to the table, before she could say anything, I said, “Dick told you he didn’t want the ring. Here, you can have it back, but next time, be more careful and listen when a man says no.” And I handed her her ring. We visited for a little bit, then went home.

Every once in a while, this sort of thing would happen, but Dick only wanted to help them have a happy marriage like ours. I couldn’t get him to understand that women fall for men who listen to them.
