“Roll over,” Lily said though her heart jumped nervously. This whole Queen of Confidence thing was new, but she was trying it out.

Mist bent and fixed his teeth around her throat where the bite mark had been, and he growled.

She grinned at the ceiling. She knew what this meant by now.

“I promise I won’t try to escape.” She stroked her hands up his back. Her heart jumped again when she felt the muscle and bone where his wings joined between his shoulder blades.

It was one thing to see it but another to touch it. She could feel where the skin stretched and became the leathery membrane that would suspend him in flight. It was surreal.

He lifted his head and pinned her with a suspicious look, and she was struck anew by the beauty of his eyes. Strange, yes, but so beautiful.

“Trust me?” She offered a reassuring smile. “I guarantee you’ll like what I have in mind.”

His eyes narrowed, and she found it sad that he still expected her to run.

It wasn’t surprising after what he’d been through—something she still didn’t fully know—but she wanted to prove that he could trust her. She made a mental note to watch her words and never promise something she couldn’t follow through on. Building trust would take time.

Finally, he relented, rolling onto his back with his wings tucked beneath him. The one closest to her spread again and scooped her up, tugging her against him and wrapping around her like a velvety blanket.

She sat up and petted his chest as a reward for listening to her request. “It’s my turn now.”

Swallowing her self-consciousness, she swung her leg over and straddled his hips.

He immediately cupped her breasts, a growl rumbling in his chest as they spilled over his big hands. She glanced down, and the sight of her pale, delicate skin against his sharp gray claws sent a thrill coursing through her.

He’s definitely ruined me for life.

“Lily…”

It was a warning. Not to tease him, perhaps? She had no intention of that, so she scooted down his body, trailing kisses as she went. His skin was so hot he felt like a furnace beneath her.

She stopped when she got to the fastening of his pants. In her mind, she would sexily open them in a practiced motion, and he would be blown away by her seductiveness.

Instead, she climbed off to sit beside him and stare in confusion at the front of the pants, which appeared to have no way to open them at all.

“How do you get these off?”

He lifted his hips and reached beneath him, and the leather waistband came loose with a tug.

“It’s for my tail.” He used the tip of said tail to flick her hair back as if reminding her what he could do with it.
