CHAPTER 7

I was at the shop, and it was the end of the day. It had snowed the entire day so I had a lot of cancellations. Me and the other stylists were all sitting around doing nothing. I decided to clean my station. I sprayed it down with some Fantastik and wiped my mirror and everything down with a towel. I wanted to go home, but I was scared I might run into Khalil. I’d been avoiding him hard for like a week. He’d been stopping by my house and blowing my phone up. I didn’t know why he didn’t show up at the shop. I was determined to ignore him. If I didn’t, he would try to turn me out. Then I’d be on his answering machine just like Bianca, leaving nasty messages.

I don’t think so. The man has some kind of magic stick and his tongue game is amazing. And I don’t want any parts of it. I love my man and I don’t want to lose him. And that’s exactly what’s going to happen if Chris finds out about all of this. I’m not risking my relationship on him. I want to build a future with Chris, not Khalil. Plus, I don’t even know him like that. With all that said, I am still drawn to him and I don’t know why. His body ain’t better than Chris’s, he don’t look as good as my boo, but his ass is sexy as hell. There’s just something about him. My musings were interrupted by Annette screaming that I had a call. I walked over to her and took the receiver. “Hello.”

“Gina.”

“Yeah, who is this?”

“This is Bianca.”

“Bianca,” I said, surprised.

“Yeah, hey, girl.”

“Hey,” I said, wondering why the fuck she was calling me.

“So, how you been?” she asked, like I just didn’t kick her out a few weeks ago.

“I’m fine. What’s up?”

“I just wanted to say that I think we been friends for too long to let something like this interfere with our friendship. You know what I’m saying. We grew up together.” She paused, waiting for me to say something, so I said, “Oh. Well, I got a client. So I got to go.” I hung up right in her ear. I couldn’t believe that bitch was trying to be my friend. Imagine that, us being cool again. The only reason she was trying to call me was because she didn’t have nobody to go out with. Nobody liked her ass. I was finished cleaning my station and was getting ready to leave when Stacy said, “You going out with us, right?”

“Going where?” I asked.

“We’re taking Janea out for drinks for her birthday.”

Damn, I had forgot—they had asked me last week. I was tired and I wasn’t dressed. I had on old boots and a big coat, plus I hate to go out when it snows. I told Stacy and Deon that I would go with them, even though I didn’t feel like it. I turned and looked in the mirror to check my appearance.
