That evening, Morgan stood outside of Leigh’s door. She could hear the music from inside and the bass vibrating against the floor. She knocked on the door several times and no one answered. She texted April and a minute later she was blown back by loud trap music, weed, and too many voices. April pulled her in for a hug as Monae walked up.

“April told me what happened!” she shouted over the cacophony of music and people having a good time. “You good?”

“I’m good,” Morgan smiled. They headed to the balcony which Morgan hadn’t noticed extended around to the other side of the building where there was a pool. Rob came over and hugged her, thanking her for coming. That’s when her eyes set on Leigh in the corner, hugged up with some woman.

“Yeah, don’t mind her,” Rob said. “She’s always with a woman, though I’m not sure that’s the woman she said she had already fallen for.” He shrugged his shoulders and walked off. Morgan felt a pang of jealousy, though she shouldn’t have. Besides, why did she expect Leigh to still want to be with her after all that she spilled earlier in the week? How could anyone?

She stared a while longer until April and Monae pulled her over to the bar to take shots. April introduced her to her cousins from out of town. Every so often, Morgan’s gaze found Leigh, until she and the woman were nowhere to be found.

“Hey, I’m going to go to the bathroom,” she told the ladies. They nodded and continued dancing and talking. Inside, Morgan moved through a throng of people until she found the bathroom. As she got closer, she could hear moans and gasps, but they weren’t coming from the bathroom. A double door on the opposite side of the hall just beyond the bathroom door, was cracked.

She knew she shouldn’t have peeked in, because she knew what she would see, but she wasn’t prepared to see Leigh with not only the woman she saw her with by the pool, but another woman as well, engaging in a threesome. Her heart stopped. So much for apologizing to Leigh. What was the point now? She turned and went back outside to the pool to join the others and willed herself to smile and look like she was enjoying herself.

When the party started to die down, Morgan said bye to April and Monae before heading out. In the living room she passed Leigh without saying a word.

“Hey, Morgan, I didn’t know you were here,” she called, jumping up from the couch, following behind her.

“No big deal.” Morgan kept walking out of the condo and Leigh stayed on her heels.

“Why didn’t you say hi or anything?”

“Didn’t want to interrupt.” They were in the parking garage when Morgan finally fished her keys out of her purse.

“Morgan, can we talk for a second?” Morgan whirled around and Leigh stopped short.

“Look, I’m sorry for standing you up at the dance class last night, and I’m definitely sorry for ever opening up to you.
