This 1925 photograph shows the Monroe County Home Demonstration Club with local leader, Addie Owens, marked by the arrow, demonstrating the latest techniques in clothing work. Home Demonstration Clubs brought rural women information and new ways to make household tasks lighter and homes more pleasant.

“In 1923 we learned to make better bread by Miss Addie Owens, the new Home Development Club agent,” was the notation under this photograph in the Allendale Home Demonstration Club scrapbook. Local leaders demonstrated up-to-date information and recommended practices on different phases of homemaking, such as food preparation, clothing, and home furnishings, to improve family life in the rural farming areas in Arkansas.
