Conclusion

The motto of the European Year of Languages 2001 was ‘Languages open Doors.’ In Finland, a number of references have been made to how MLAC/CLIL can be used to unleash potential and open the way for young people to have greater opportunities for success in their later lives by building firm linguistic foundations and the ability to learn other languages and also strengthen the mother tongue as a means of communication. This approach to language teaching and learning has been viewed, in most applications throughout the country, not so much as providing the ‘house of language’ as in full bilingual capability, but as providing the key to the doors of various ‘language houses’.
