USEFUL TIPS

The only way to learn how to sculpt is to practise. Modelling putties all have different qualities and you have to find the right one for your style.

You can make all sorts of useful sanding tools by double-siding sandpaper to small bits of wood or plastic.

Hanging Equipment

Between the shelves, on the upright timbers, hang a trench club and Sam Browne belt with revolver. The Sam Browne was copied from those on Tommy’s War officers. Strips of lead foil were cut for the straps and buckles made from copper wire, trying to imagine how a leather belt might hang with the weight of a revolver and a buckle on one end. It was with painted with acrylics, but eventually given a wash of Burnt Sienna oil paint, which gives it a slight sheen. (Always be on the lookout for how to improve things.) The trench club was made from pieces of styrene rod and the head is a slightly wider piece of rod with strips of thin square section on it. A taper was sanded on the handle and a rope lanyard made from twisted electrical flex.
