CHAPTER EIGHT
I woke up Sunday morning, staggered over to my desk, and checked my website to see how my online sales had been. I pulled up the page and did such a hard double-take that I literally fell out of my chair.
âOuch!â I rubbed my hip and started to laugh. I climbed to my feet, checked the totals again, and gave myself a moment to let it all sink in. The online sales Iâd accrued overnight were much better than Iâd imagined. âDamn, Skippy!â
I danced over to my mini fridge and grabbed a sodaâmy only choice for caffeine in the morningâand went back to my desk.
Since I had a very limited window of opportunity for the holiday photos, I had worked until two in the morning, tweaking and polishing the images for the customers that had ordered prints yesterday. I had emailed my order in and would pick them up from the printer Monday afternoon.
Now I had another list of online orders for prints, and I would need to get those going tonight. The next few weeks were going to be crazy busy with very long hours. It would be best if I made myself a work list for later this evening, I decided. I grabbed a pad of paper and wrote it all down. Once that was done, I leaned back and stretched my arms over my head.
I remembered to check the weather forecast, and saw that we had a chance for light snow today. That meant I would need to switch to heavier outer gear and figure out how to weatherproof my outdoor table and workspace. Worst case scenario I might have to put that table and chairs in the gift shop, to protect my equipment.
Iâd figure it out once I got to the farm, I decided. Now, I had about an hour to get ready for another full day of photography.
When I arrived, I discovered that the McBriars had a plan for the weather. Theyâd pitched a pop-up canopy over my table and chairs. Ezra had fastened tarps to three of its sides, and Diane was on a stepstool, hanging a wreath on the front of the pop-up as I prepped for the day.
âNow you are all set!â She clicked on the battery-operated lights and hopped down.
Not only was the arrangement cute, but it would also keep me, my laptop, and the paperwork out of the wind and the wet. Good thing too, as Sunday brought a brisk business, and a series of snow showers, which added to the Yuletide atmosphere.
It was much colder today, and I had added a Santa hat trimmed out in black fur to my outfit and was wearing my heaviest black coat. However, the temperatures didnât slow down the tree shoppers and the folks who wanted their photos taken. If anything, the dusting of snow only made it more festive.
I took a break to warm up in the gift shop, and was standing sipping a hot chocolate with Grandma Larson when I spotted Eddie OâConnell with his brother Kevin and their dad, Carl, in the shop.
