“That stinks!” Lindsey exclaimed. “Sorry… what’s your name again?”

“Tim,” the boy said. “Anyway, I’m glad you’re okay now. If you three ever need help standing up against Kyle, let me know!”

He gave us all a big smile, looking a lot more like Prince Charming than Kyle ever could.

Chapter

A couple of weeks later, I got a call from Lindsey.

“I can’t memorize my lines no matter how hard I try!” she cried.

Thanks to Julie’s and Dad’s help, I’d already memorized my lines, but I had a lot fewer scenes than Lindsey.

“Did you ask your parents for help?” I asked. “Dad and Julie have been helping me with my lines.”

“My dad’s back in Minnesota, with my other grandparents, and my mom’s busy with work. Usually I can ask my grandma—my mom’s mom—but she’s got her hands full right now with my brother. He’s having a hard time with summer school, so she’s been busy trying to figure that out.”

I frowned. What could I do? Then I got an idea.

After Lindsey and I hung up, I called Sally. “Are you free this weekend?”

“Uh… not on Sunday, but I should be free on Saturday!”

“Perfect!” I said. “We should help Lindsey memorize her lines and practice our lines all together, just like we did before the audition!”

“Okay! Maybe we can make it into a fun beach day, too, since Lindsey’s house is by the beach!”

“That’s an awesome idea!”

On Saturday, we met up in our bathing suits at the beach by Lindsey’s house. Since Lindsey’s mom was at work and Lindsey’s grandma was busy helping her brother with summer school homework, Dad, Julie, and Sally’s parents came to the beach with us.

Dad and Mr. Johnson set up big umbrellas and lawn chairs so we could stay by the beach for as long as we wanted. Once we were settled, we opened up our baskets of snacks! Happily munching away on shrimp chips and Pepero and enjoying the ocean breeze, Sally, Lindsey, and I went over our lines together.
