Shyla tapped her finger on the steering wheel, contemplating whether or not to darken the doors of her old stomping ground: Taste of Soul, Buckhead. Her mind had been a whir of ideas ever since last night’s romp with Mr. Big-Shot Attorney, Trust-Fund Riley. As she recalled the evening, a sly smile scampered across Shyla’s face. The lovemaking had been average, but he was worth way more to her than the size of his jurisdiction. Afterwards, she’d poured more drinks and he’d poured out his heart: how he and Bianca had been friends since childhood, had dated for more than two years, and how she’d suddenly and unceremoniously dumped him during the holidays. Shyla had listened with compassion, agreeing that Cooper had been wronged and assuring him that Bianca wasn’t worth his mourning. “Success is the best revenge,” she’d reminded him, just as she’d reminded herself a year ago, when she, too, had been dumped from the Livingston camp. Last night, she’d barely slept, plotting and planning how she could take the two halves she was juggling and make them a winning whole. On one side was Cooper, more than ready to show everybody his worth, especially Bianca. On the other side was the man who just wouldn’t go away no matter how hard she’d tried to make him.
