www.somme-1916.com is a Paul Read site devoted to the Somme with lots of information about the battle and what to see when you reach the area.
The Historial is an excellent museum at Peronne on the edge of the Somme battlefield, which is well worth visiting. Its website, www.historial.org/us/home_b.htm, also contains many interesting pages, particularly on cultural aspects of the war.
There is a new Thiepval Visitors Centre at the vast Thiepval Memorial, which commemorates 72,000 British and Commonwealth men who have no known grave. Details are at www.thiepval.org.uk.
