Michael worried his lower lip with his teeth as he made his way out of Jason’s luxuriously appointed car, climbing from the incredible warmth of the interior to the chill of the outdoors. He wished he didn’t have to return to these streets—return to who he was before. If only he could stay with Jason and be a regular Werewolf. He cursed Damen, the false king. If he wasn’t such a tyrant, perhaps Jason would feel safer and not need an army to protect himself and his loved ones.

He glanced back and watched him wave before driving off to find somewhere to park. Michael pressed his hand to his pocket where the nights’ stash of drugs was ready to be sold. He hated doing this, but he knew there was no other way. He needed to help Jason and there was only one way he knew how. His conscience was screaming at him but he bargained with it. If it could just shut up for a few nights, he would be able to keep sleeping in the warm bed, in the incredible new apartment, and finally have a family. Jason would appreciate him so much if he could do this for him.

He hurried over to his usual spot, leaning back against the filthy wall and letting his hood cover his face. Almost immediately, humans surrounded him, their hands coming out with money.

“Hey man, it’s been a while! Don’t do this to us, you’re the cheapest around here!” one of his regulars said, clutching the little bag he got in exchange for his money close like a precious child. Grinning, he ran away, hurrying, no doubt, to immediately put his goods to use.

“I-I can give you something else for another bag,” one of the women slurred, making her way sickeningly closer.

Stopping himself from gagging in disgust at her scent to his sensitive nose, he nodded, leading her away from where all the others had run away with their purchases. She looked so desperate and happy. She offered herself as payment often and he never took her up on it.

Unable to make eye contact, he hurried them a few blocks away into the alleyway Jason had specified and took her into the shadows. He scented around him, ensuring that the area was clear. She immediately began touching him and he flinched away from her hands on his belt.

“I can make you feel really good,” she insisted, unbuckling as quickly as she could. He pushed her away before beginning his transformation. She watched in horror, her mouth open in a silent scream, her eyes wide and glassy. She was still frozen when he lunged at her, biting her arm. He could smell her terror and fear as she screeched in pain, scrambling backwards away from him. She fell, crawling in the muck to get away. Without warning, her body began to convulse, shaking uncontrollably, her cries cut off into guttural sounds of pain and confusion.

Michael changed back, running over to help her but he was stopped by arms around him, pulling him to a stop.
