Cayden pulled up to the corner of Lexington and East 64th Street behind a line of town cars that stretched halfway around the block. In one of these posh neighborhoods, he expected nothing less. From the lack of parking spots, it appeared something was going on here, and Natalya had failed to mention it.

He got out of the car, not bothering to lock his door. He doubted anyone in this neighborhood would steal a muscle car. As he made his way up the tree-lined block, he stopped outside a luxurious three-story town house with a black wrought iron gate.

Once he approached a set of fancy double doors, he pressed the buzzer. He glanced down at his worn jeans and the concert T-shirt he wore under his flannel, and made a face. He wasn’t exactly dressed for a soiree. His hand trailed over the scruff along his chin. If he’d known he’d be invited inside, he would've at least managed to shave.

An older human male opened the door wearing a dark jacket and a frown. “You must be Mr. Teague.”

“I’m here to see Talya, uh, Miss Dubrosky.”

“She’s expecting you.” He glanced at Cayden’s clothing and a curious expression appeared across his haggard face.

Cayden stepped inside the town house and wiped his boots on a mat. The butler led him across a black and white tiled floor into an enormous hallway. Glancing at his surroundings, he noted a fancy chaise lounge and a grouping of nude statues on a table. Luxury oozed from every corner of the room. He walked deeper into the hallway, stopped, and stared.

Murals that could rival the Guggenheim lined the walls. Cayden sucked in a breath at the collective opulence. The scent of expensive perfume and vampire floated in the air.

“I’ll let Miss Dubrosky know you’re here,” the butler muttered and disappeared through the hall.

The hum of voices drifted through the room and Cayden wondered if Natalya had ever invited a demon into her home. Staring at the paintings reminded him of the watercolors from Arcadia. He’d scoured every corner of the planet searching for lost demon treasures, only to come up empty.

“Are you a fan of Keith Haring?” The soft lilt of Natalya’s voice pulled him from his reverie.

Turning his head, Cayden caught her silhouette in the frame of the doorway. Seeing her standing against the backdrop of light and color left him a little breathless. “I’ve seen his work before at a local gallery. Mind you, I’d been undercover busting a drug smuggling ring at the time.”

“It would be nice to check him out when you’re not working. We could go sometime.” She crossed into the hall. “I mean, if you want to.”

A spotlight glowed above her head, accentuating the silky strands of her dark hair and the flecks of gold in her eyes. His gaze moved lower, devouring every inch of her with a single glance. He took in the outline of her breasts, the curve of her hips, and those shapely legs of hers encased in a pair of dress slacks.
