The peak at 3370 cm−1 shifted back to 3434 cm−1 and became sharper after HAuCl4 was introduced. The amino groups were in complex with Au3+, reducing the associated bodies and hydrogen bonds. Meanwhile, the added ethylenediamine increased the primary amine and even secondary amine (ethylenediamine alkylation). Thus, the amine stretching peak near 3370 cm−1 was strengthened as compared to the amide I and II bands of original butterfly wings. This enhancement may even exist after the amine-Au complexation process.

As additional supporting evidence, after the EDA was introduced, the peaks corresponding to amide I at 1655 cm−1 and amide II at 1535 cm−1 shifted to lower wave numbers and moved back after the amine-Au complexation. This phenomenon could be attributed to the formation and deformation of hydroxyl bonds between amino and carbonyl groups due to the amine-Au complexation. All these results indicate that the amination of original butterfly wings via EDA is beneficial to the successive complexation process, providing an important basis for the subsequent electroless deposition.
