Seen at Wien-Seyring in April–May 1944 are these Bf 109 G-6/R6s of 9./JG 27. The second aircraft from the right is Wk Nr 441090 flown by Staffelkapitän Leutnant Dr Peter Werfft who would be shot down and wounded flying this aircraft whilst engaged in a transfer flight to Gardelegen on 19 May 1944. Werfft had joined 3./JG 27 in June 1940 as a Gefreiter, his first two victories coming on 27 September 1940. On 19 May 1944, he had had just shot down two B-24s for his 21st and 22nd victories before he was shot down and wounded. His wounds meant he did not rejoin JG 27 until October 1944, then taking command of III Gruppe. He would be awarded the Ritterkreuz in January 1945 and survived the war.
