Fw 190 A-1, werk nummer 033 of 6./Jagdgeschwader 26 coded Black 6. This was one of five aircraft lost in accidents on the afternoon of 22 December 1941. Whilst moving from Wevelghem in Belgium to Abbeville-Drucat in France, 6./Jagdgeschwader 26 led by Oberleutnant Walter Schneider (who had twenty kills to his name) got lost in fog and the pilots became disorientated. Five aircraft crashed with all five pilots, including Schneider, being killed. The pilot of this aircraft was former infantryman Oberfeldwebel Kurt Görbig who had joined 6./Jagdgeschwader 26 at the end of August 1941 direct from training. He was killed when the aircraft crashed at Echingen, 4km south-east of Boulogne. (via Price)
