Blessings on blessings! A few days later, we were pleased to receive an invitation from Hebron, begging us to bring little Joshua to meet his cousin. I gratefully noticed that it lacked any reference to a Messiah. I was not ready to explain the situation to my family in Bethlehem.

Of course, we would eventually have to apologize to Bathshua and her brood; one cannot hide the Chosen One forever. Already, our hand was very nearly tipped by the Rebbe after the bris.

That was a close one. Mystics are very common among us Jews. I think it must be because we all participate fully in our religion, and encourage discussion of the scriptures and practices. One can often hear the children shouting what is right and wrong while playing games in the street. It makes me smile to think that they would bring in the scriptures just to win a point. Not so different from my own group at the synagogue.
