Chapter 6

Maya tried to stretch her arms over her head but not without difficulty. As she sat up, she noticed that the room that she had awoken in was illuminated by what looked to be an expensive chandelier. She had assumed that she was in some type of winner’s suite because there was no reason why they would have gone through the trouble for her unless she showed some sort of promise.

After an hour of looking around the exquisite features of her room, boredom and loneliness began to set in. Though Maya wanted Jeremy’s company the most, she would have settled for the company of anyone. She knew that she would have to fight again the next day. And if she was going to die, then she didn't want to spend her last night alone.

Still, she was surprised at the way things had turned out for her. She had overcome the most frightening experience of her life, and she was alive. She knew that her fighting mentality had to do with the bond she had developed with Jeremy, although looking back on things... she was amazed that such a bond had even formed to begin with.

Jeremy had effectively destroyed her life. She had her own set of hopes and dreams before Jeremy kidnapped her. She had a boyfriend who loved her. But, all of those things were gone now. And the strangest thing was that Maya had learned to be okay with it. She felt like a different person, and it was all because of him. In spite of his actions, Jeremy had never once manipulated her. He had told her in straightforward fashion that she was already dead, and Maya had truly come to embrace that mentality. For the past few weeks, she had only focused on the present. It had changed her life. Maya firmly believed that it only took one person to make someone want to change. And Jeremy had caused that change in her. Despite being in captivity, she felt more alive than she ever had in life.

"This is the world's worst case of Stockholm Syndrome ever..." she thought to herself with a smirk of disbelief.

She also knew that sex with Jeremy had completely changed their feelings about each other. The night that they had spent together was unlike anything Maya had ever experienced before. Jeremy set every nerve she had on fire and as she sat there in the darkness of her room, she craved that heat. The passion that the two of them had worked up together was more than she had ever felt in her entire life, and she didn’t want to let that go.

Maya closed her eyes with every intention of falling asleep but she couldn’t seem get her mind off of Jeremy. She found herself wondering what he was doing in that very moment.

Suddenly, Maya heard the lock on her door bolt out of place and creak open.

She sat up quickly. “Hello?” Maya asked tentatively and received no reply.
