Chapter 26

Gawen

Gawen forced himself to sit still while wave after wave of utter ecstasy crashed through him. His instinct told him to move, but he didn’t want to choke her.

Her name lingered on his tongue after he had screamed it, and her sharp scent of arousal filled his nose and made him want to tear her clothes off, throw her on the bed, and bury himself inside her. But instead he let her wet mouth draw out his pleasure until his balls felt like they were running on empty.

“Stop. I can’t take any more of your wicked mouth right now.” He winced and tugged on her hair gently.

She let go of his still rigid shaft with a pop before tipping her head back and grinning up at him.

His heart clenched as he stared into her beautiful dark-blue eyes. He wanted her to be his forever, but unfortunately, he didn’t think she felt the same about him. It had been disguised well, but she had avoided addressing his declaration earlier that he wanted her to be his.

You idiot. What did you think would happen? That she would fall into your arms and declare her undying love and devotion to you? He forced a smile to try to cover up the turmoil in his head, but apparently he wasn’t very successful.

“What’s wrong?” Nes cocked her head, and her brows pushed together. “You look…sad. Did I do something wrong?”

“No, not at all.” He shook his head. “I don’t think you could do anything wrong if you tried.”

Her frown deepened. “Then what is it?”

“I can’t help falling in love with you.” The words were out of his mouth before he could stop them, but when he saw her face go pale, he wished he could take them back.

“That’s…” She swallowed hard, her eyes blown wide and filled with near panic. “Don’t do that. That’s a bad idea. I can’t…” Then she was on her feet and out the door before he could do anything to stop her.

He squeezed his eyes shut as pain tore through his chest. What on earth had possessed him to say something like that when he already knew she didn’t want him? He was an idiot, just like the voices in his head had been telling him for years.

If he had been smart and bided his time with her, there was a small chance she would have accepted him in the end. But instead he had gone ahead and destroyed everything. She would avoid him from now on, and he wouldn’t get a second chance to make this right. He had scared her away for good, and all that was left for him now was to try to pick up the pieces that were left of his heart.

Gawen let himself fall back on the bed. He was still naked, and the door was wide open, but he didn’t care. Let the world see him in his pitiful state. Then the people around him could join the voices in his head to tell him how stupid he was.
